The Royal Veterinary College was founded in 1791. Notable alumni is (Winifred) Mary Brancker, CBE, DUniv, FRCVS, (1914–2010) was an English veterinary surgeon, best known as the first woman to become president of the British Veterinary Association since its foundation in 1881. Another one Walter Plowright CMG FRS FRCVS was an English veterinary scientist who devoted his career to the eradication of the cattle plague rinderpest. And also Sir Gordon Shattock who was a British Conservative Party's Western-area Chairman, who survived the 1984 Brighton bombing, which claimed the life of his first wife, Jeanne.
